The large state of New South Wales, Australia with Sydney as it's capital, offers unspoilt beaches, expansive rural countryside, wild national parks and rugged outback.

New South Wales is a large state with the vibrant city of Sydney as its capital. New South Wales celebrates its natural beauty from its gracious beaches and rugged coastline to the splendour of the Blue Mountains to the dramatic landscapes of the outback.

The state can be divided into 12 main areas:

1) Sydney – The capital of New South Wales and Australia’s largest city.

2) Blue Mountains – About 1.5 hours drive from Sydney finds you in an area of natural beauty, aboriginal heritage, arts and crafts and the popular 1,000 square kilometres of National Park.

3) Central Coast and Lake Macquarie– Beautiful beaches and a popular day trip from Sydney the Central Coast is mostly urban and stretches from Sydney’s north to Newcastle. Lake Macquarie is a large and beautiful coastal lake is just over 1.5 hours from Sydney and offers the visitor many activities both relaxing and energizing.

4) Hunter Valley – World class wine district with picturesque countryside and opportunities for pleasant walks and tasting delicious local produce.

5) Port Stephens and Barrington Tops – Port Stephens with activities such as whale watching, cruises, and great beaches, are contrasted by the Barrington Tops and foothills with its peaceful national park and wilderness adventures.

6) North Coast from Port Macquarie to Tweed Heads – A beautiful coastline of unspoilt beaches including the popular destinations of Coffs Harbour and Byron Bay.

7) South Coast from Wollongong to Bega – The south coast offers endless beaches, surfing, swimming and a lovely drive down the coast all the way along the Sapphire Coast to Victoria.

8) Outback – A land of rugged natural beauty, vivid colours, opal mining, unique historic towns, and the traditional “aussie pub” and the world’s largest silver/zinc/lead mine at Broken Hill or visit the Mungo national Park with it’s wonderful examples of Aboriginal rock art.

9) Southern Central District – From Parkes, Goulburn and Cowra south to the Murray River, this large area offers tourists an insight into rural Australia and opportunities to discover historical towns, the fruits of scientific endeavour and the unique flavour of Australian Rural life.

10) Northern Central District – From Orange, Dubbo and Bathurst north to Glen Innes, Tamworth and Armidale this large area offers a unique blend of country music, car racing, historic and university towns, and a chance to discover the beautiful “New England” district and the Western Plains Zoo.

11) Alpine High Country – Snowy Mountains; spectacular in summer, snow in winter, home of Australia’s highest mountain peak Mt. Kosciuszko and the Snowy Mountains hydroelectric scheme.

12) Lord Howe Island – Less than a two-hour flight from Sydney this World Heritage listed island has beautiful white beaches, a wilderness interior and the world’s most southernmost coral reef.
