The state of Victoria, Australia can be divided into 13 zones each brimming with an great range of things to do, see and experience.

Victoria, Australia is a state of contrasts, offering an endless supply of things to do, see and experience all within a relatively small area. Melbourne is the state’s capital. It is a vibrant and culturally diverse city. Victoria is a microcosm of the Australian experience overflowing with opportunities for the traveller.

The state can be divided into 13 main areas:

  1. Melbourne – The capital of Victoria and Australia’s second largest city.
  2. Dandenong Ranges - Less than an hour from the city, the Dandenong ranges are a complex mixture of national park, elegant and romantic getaways and small villages nestled amongst soaring gum trees.
  3. Mornington Peninsula - Beautiful bay beaches on one side and the roar of the ocean on the other, fabulous wines and historical sites, a part of Victoria that offers a wide range of interesting and relaxing activities.
  4. Daylesford, the Spa District and Macedon Ranges – For over 100 years visitors have “taken the waters” in Daylesford. Now a thriving health retreat and bustling village, this area is only an hour and a half from Melbourne.
  5. Ballarat and Bendigo – These large towns are the centre of the historical goldfields district.
  6. Geelong and Surrounds – The second largest town in Victoria, just over an hours drive from Melbourne and situated on Corio Bay, has a flavour all its own.
  7. The Great Ocean Road – One of the top ten ocean drives in the world with spectacular views, whale watching and great places to stay right on the ocean.
  8. Grampians and the Little Desert – This area covers the North West of Victoria where desert, farmland, national parks and granite ranges meet.
  9. Alpine Areas/High Country – Snow in winter, spectacular scenery in all seasons.
  10. Phillip Island – An island of delights with, fairy penguins, Australian animals, the motorcycle Grand Prix, and traditional seaside fun and relaxation.
  11. Gippsland – This spectacular area covers the east coast from Melbourne to the border of New South Wales, and extends northwards into the alpine high country.
  12. The Border Country – The famous Murray River forms the boundary between Victoria and New South Wales. Small country towns dot the landscape and large areas are devoted to dairying, fruit production, wheat and rice growing.
