Darwin is a unique place, there is nowhere else like it in Australia. It is both urban and country, it has an interesting blend of cultures and the tropical seasons affect the moods of the people. It is an interesting place to sit and watch life pass by. The people who live there tend to either love Darwin or hate it.

During WW2 in February 1942 Darwin was bombed by the Japanese. This historical event is remembered at various sites around the city. This is an interesting and unique aspect of the city.

Darwin has few historic buildings. Most were lost when Cyclone Tracy decimated the city. A few stone buildings have survived and have been restored. Since the Cyclone the erection of buildings has been highly regulated and so there is a "sameness" about much of the city. This is a unique feature and gives the city a particular feel.

August has some unique festivities like the "beer can regatta" with boats made entirely of beer cans and the "mud crab tying competition".

Fishing fishing and more fishing. Crocodiles, beautiful beaches and a great base to visit Kakadu NP, Litchfield NP and Katherine Gorge.
